16.8 points per game, 6.3 assists a night and 5.3 rebounds.
That is what WNBA rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has done thus far throughout the first 12 games of her pro career, sure she has struggled at times, but she has shown flashes already that we can see that will lead her to being one of the best players in her sport.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention she also gave the WNBA a certain level of creditability and spotlight it had never seen before her arrival on the scene this season.
Despite everything Clark has already done for Women's basketball in the last year, word came out that she would not be selected to Team USA's women's team for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
That is dumb.
Clark is the face of not only women's basketball in the United States but around the world at the current moment. To not put her on the world stage to continue to promote the game is a head-scratching decision.
Much of the narrative around her rookie season has been that veteran players do not like Clark because of the spotlight she has garnered throughout her time in College at Iowa (which makes no sense by the way). Players have tried to roughen her up or get under her skin during her first weeks in the pros. Because of this, would this not have been the time to let her peers get to know the real Caitlin Clark by having everyone together for a few weeks across the world while sharing a common goal of bringing home gold?
I also forgot to mention the most important part, she is simply better than a majority of the players on this roster. This automatically should get her on this team in the first place.
If the WNBA ever wonders why they aren't to keep fans consistently, it is because of decisions like this. Truly dumbfounding.
