The Warriors Should Trade Stephen Curry and Here is My Favourite Potential Destination

With the departure of Klay Thompson, as he heads to the Dallas Mavericks via a sign-and-trade, the Golden State Warriors as we knew them are no more as the franchise begins transitions out of their dynastic run with their former big three. Thompson's exit was not shocking to the say least as it was reported throughout the season by various sources that after rejecting a 2-year 48 million dollar deal from Golden State, all signs pointed to this season being the last of this era of Warriors basketball.
With the Splash brothers now broken up, Golden State is at a crossroads. Stephen Curry is still one of the best players in basketball and is only two years removed from leading the Warriors to a championship in 2022.
Unfortunately, the last two seasons have not lived up to pre-season expectations for these Warriors. Even with Thompson, the Warriors were a 6-seed in 2023 and lost in round two to the Los Angeles Lakers, and in 2024 the Warriors did not even make the post-season after falling in the Play-In game to the Sacramento Kings.
Curry will help keep the Warriors in the playoff hunt as long as he is healthy while keeping up his elite level of play but there is likely no path that results in the Warriors being taken a serious title threat for the remainder of Curry's career.
With that in mind, and despite how weird it would be to see him in another uniform, could it be time for the Warriors and Curry to go their separate ways as Curry is still good enough to be one of, if not the best player on a championship team which can allow Golden State to recoup some value in a potential trade as he is still under contract for another two seasons?
In the unlikely scenario that the Warriors and Curry decide all good things must come to an end by working together on a trade, there is one potential destination in my opinion that stands out above that would put Curry in the best position possible to capture a fifth championship.
Curry & Ant-Man Back Court Anyone?
The Trade:
Warriors Receive: Karl-Anthony Towns, Rob Dillingham, Draft Picks
Timberwolves Receive: Stephen Curry
If the Warriors are going to deal Steph Curry, they will likely want an All-Star caliber player, a player potential, and draft picks, in that scenario, Minnesota can give the Warriors a great package.
Towns has been in trade rumours and this would be the perfect time to the Wolves to get from under that contract. Towns could go back to being a number one option in Golden State where he could put up stats that either allows the Warriors to build up his trade value, or have a center piece big man as they look to retool post Curry. The Warriors also acquire the number eight overall pick in this year's draft with Rob Dillingham, as well as future unprotected draft picks from the Timberwolves.
The more I think of this dream duo, the more I want it.
