The Silcoff Selections are for Week 6 of the 2024 NFL Season! Below are my records for my straight up and against the spread picks for the season thus far.
Records Last Week:
Straight Up: 8-6
Against The Spread: 6-7-1
Season Records:
Straight Up: 47-31
Against The Spread: 36-37-5
Teams On Byes; Dolphins, Chiefs, Rams, Vikings
Thursday Night Football: San Francisco 49ers (2-3) @ Seattle Seahawks (3-2) I Line: 49ers -3.5
Both of these teams are coming off disastrous losses in Week 5. However, the good news for both is that if you win, you take over the division lead. Unfortunately for my Seahawks, this just isn't a good spot, with injuries starting to pile up on the defensive side of the ball. Seattle will be without Riq Woolen, Byron Murphy, and Uchenna Nwosu. Despite the 49ers still not having Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason has stepped in, and quarterback Brock Purdy, aside from last week, has been very good so far this season. The 49ers go into Seattle and hand the Seahawks their third straight loss.
Prediction: 49ers 26, Seahawks 22
London Game: Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4) Vs Chicago Bears (3-2) I Line: Bears -2
The Jaguars finally picked up their first win of the season on Sunday at home against the Colts, and it couldn't have come at a better time, as that plane ride to London would have been really quiet if the team had been 0-5. As they travel overseas, the Bears have won back-to-back games, and their top pick, Caleb Williams, has improved every week. In this one, I'm going to go with the group that is accustomed to traveling across the pond during an unusual preparation week. The Jaguars win a tight one in London for their second straight win.
Prediction: Jaguars 24, Bears 21
Early Sunday Slate
Arizona Cardinals (2-3) @ Green Bay Packers (3-2) I Line: Packers -5
One of the bigger Week 5 upsets occurred in the Bay Area when Arizona surprised its divisional rival, the San Francisco 49ers, and stormed back for a comeback win. Meanwhile, the Packers got a win in what was Jordan Love's first victory of the season. Even with some receivers likely to be out this week, Green Bay seems to have found some offensive momentum that could take advantage of this Cardinals defense. That said, the Packers' defense has not been great, and Arizona's fast-paced attack could cause some problems. I think Green Bay picks up a home win, but the Cardinals keep it close at Lambeau Field.
Prediction: Packers 28, Cardinals 24
Cleveland Browns (1-4) @ Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) I Line: Eagles -9
I know betting on the Browns bit me in the behind last week, but based on what we've seen from the Eagles this season and their inconsistent play, I don't think they should be 9-point favorites over anyone, even Cleveland. I expect both teams to utilize the run game, which will drain the clock and limit possessions. Eagles win, Browns cover.
Prediction: Eagles 21, Browns 13
Houston Texans (4-1) @ New England Patriots (1-4) I Line: Texans -7
Third overall pick Drake Maye will make his first NFL start for the Patriots, and I predict that he and New England will pull off one of the bigger upsets of the year. Due to a hamstring injury, the Texans placed their top wide receiver, Nico Collins, on injured reserve. This is obviously going to hinder the Texans' offense, which has struggled through the first five weeks of the season. The Patriots secure their first home victory of the season behind a solid defensive effort, continuing the trend of 7-point dogs being successful straight up this season.
Prediction: Patriots 21, Texans 20
Indianapolis Colts (2-2) Vs Tennessee Titans (1-3) I Line: Titans -2.5
This is strangely one of the tougher games of the weekend to pick. With so much uncertainty on both sides, I am going to go with the healthier team. Indianapolis' injuries on offense continue to stack up, with Michael Pittman Jr. now out for multiple weeks with a back injury, Jonathan Taylor missing last week, and Anthony Richardson's status unclear. As much as I may regret it, I'll take Will Levis and the Titans at home.
Prediction: Titans 20, Colts 17
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) @ New Orleans Saints (2-3) I Line: Buccaneers -3.5
Remember about 17-20 days ago when the Saints, riding high after a 2-0 start, were headed to the Super Bowl? Fun times! Three weeks later, they look very much like the team we expected going into the season. With quarterback Derek Carr now out for a couple of weeks and a banged-up offensive line, things could get ugly very quickly for New Orleans. For Tampa, Baker Mayfield and this offense have been on fire to start the season, aside from Week 3, and I like them to continue that level of play. Todd Bowles will dial up the blitz to put more pressure on Spencer Rattler in his first start, which could lead to a couple of turnovers. The Bucs pick up a road divisional win fairly easily.
Prediction: Buccaneers 26, Saints 16
Washington Commanders (4-1) @ Baltimore Ravens (3-2) I Line: Ravens -6.5
After an 0-2 start, the Ravens are now on an impressive three-game winning streak with wins over the Cowboys, Bills, and Bengals, where Lamar Jackson has reverted back to his MVP level of play. In Washington, this Commanders offense, led by rookie Jayden Daniels, may be the best in football right now. There are lots of holes in both of these defenses, so the offensive fireworks of big throws and runs should be a theme throughout this one. With Derrick Henry's rebirth, I think the Ravens and Jackson have a small advantage over Daniels and his Commanders. The Ravens win this one at home.
Prediction: Ravens 28, Commanders 23
Late Sunday Slate
Los Angeles Chargers (2-2) @ Denver Broncos (3-2) I Line: Chargers -3
Although the Chargers are coming off a bye week, Denver is quietly playing very well and has won three straight games, including two impressive road victories at Tampa and the Jets. While Bo Nix has struggled, this defense has been one of the best in the league all year. I think they will get to Justin Herbert, who has already been dealing with injuries, and Denver will secure their fourth win in a row.
Prediction: Broncos 21, Chargers 17
Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2) @ Las Vegas Raiders (2-3) I Line: Steelers -3
Based on what we've heard early in the week, it sounds like there's a good chance Russell Wilson could be making his Steelers debut Sunday in Las Vegas. If that's the case, I expect some rust from Wilson, which could lead to a close game. If Justin Fields remains the starter, I could see a scenario where he tries to do a bit too much with Wilson breathing down his neck. No matter who the starter for the Steelers is, I think they leave Las Vegas with a win because the Raiders are still the Raiders. However, this game stays close because all Steelers games do.
Prediction: Steelers 18, Raiders 16
Atlanta Falcons (3-2) @ Carolina Panthers (1-4) I Line: Falcons -6
Before I begin, can someone explain to me why this game is in the afternoon slate? This feels like an early window game, as I do not expect many eyes on it. Despite looking better than they did over the first couple of weeks, I still think the Panthers are the worst team in football. Meanwhile, the Falcons are starting to look good as Kirk Cousins becomes more familiar with his new teammates on offense. The Falcons win and go to 3-0 in the NFC South.
Prediction: Falcons 22, Panthers 12
Detroit Lions (3-1) @ Dallas Cowboys (3-2) I Line: Lions -3
I LOVE the Lions in this spot coming off a bye week. The Cowboys offense yet again will likely be very one-dimensional due to Detroit's ability to stop the run, not to mention how bad Dallas rushing attack is anyways. With injuries on defense for Dallas, the Lions offense gets the job done and get revenge for a game they feel was stolen from them late last season.
Prediction: Lions 27, Cowboys 20
Sunday Night Football: Cincinnati Bengals (1-4) @ New York Giants (2-3) I Line: Bengals -3.5
I just can't quit the Bengals, especially with how good Joe Burrow and this offense are playing right now. The Bengals are in serious need of this win, and the Giants lack an ability to hang around in high-scoring games but with how bad this Bengals defense is, anything is possible. With Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase now hitting their stride, Burrow and the Bengals have been putting up big numbers in the passing game, despite their disappointing start in the win-loss column. Cincy should be laser-focused, and the offense should keep producing at an elite level.
Prediction: Bengals 27, Giants 20
Monday Night Football: Buffalo Bills (3-2) @ New York Jets (2-3) I Line: Bills -2.5
Let me be clear, I am not a believer in the New York Jets. I think this organization is a dumpster fire right now, and it all came to a head with the team firing head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday. That said, time and time again, we've seen a team get a spark when an interim coach takes over, especially in that first game. We've seen Josh Allen struggle against this Jets defense before at MetLife, and even with Saleh gone, I don't expect many scheme changes, at least not this quickly. With the entire NFL world coming after him for his potential role in Saleh's firing, Aaron Rodgers responds, and the Jets pull off a win at home, moving into a tie for first place in the AFC East.
Prediction: Jets 20, Bills 19
