The Silcoff Selections are here for Week 17 of the 2024 NFL Season! Below are my records for my straight up and against the spread picks for the season thus far.
Records Last Week:
Straight Up: 10-6
Against The Spread: 7-9
Season Records:
Straight Up: 158-82
Against The Spread: 120-114-6
Christmas Game #1: Kansas City Chiefs (14-1) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (10-5) I Line: Chiefs -3
With a win, the Chiefs can secure the AFC's #1 overall seed, and I like their chances to do so. Over the past few weeks, Kansas City has started to resemble the dominant team we've grown accustomed to. Patrick Mahomes has never lost to the Steelers.
Prediction: Chiefs 24, Steelers 20
Christmas Game #2: Baltimore Ravens (10-5) @ Houston Texans (9-6) I Line: Ravens -5.5
The Texans are coming off an emotional last few days following receiver Tank Dell's injury and are all but locked into the number four seed. Meanwhile, the Ravens still have a chance to win the AFC North, and with a strong finish to the season, Lamar Jackson could reinsert himself into the MVP conversation. Expect Jackson to deliver a standout performance.
Prediction: Ravens 28, Texans 20
Thursday Night Football: Seattle Seahawks (8-7) @ Chicago Bears (4-11) I Line: Seahawks -3.5
Seattle has an outside chance at making the playoffs, but they must win this game to keep their hopes alive. I expect them to come out desperate and defeat a Bears team that already seems to be looking ahead to the offseason.
Prediction: Seahawks 26, Bears 20
Saturday Game #1: Los Angeles Chargers (9-6) @ New England Patriots (3-12) I Line: Chargers -4
With a win, the Chargers can clinch their spot in the postseason. This matchup highlights a clear coaching advantage, and I expect the Chargers to go on the road and take care of business.
Prediction: Chargers 24, Patriots 14
Saturday Game #2: Denver Broncos (9-6) @ Cincinnati Bengals (7-8) I Line: Bengals -3
With a win, the Bengals can keep their postseason hopes alive for another week. Unfortunately, I believe those slim hopes will end here. The Bengals' defense tends to struggle against above-average offenses, and Denver takes advantage. The Broncos pull off a big win and secure their first playoff appearance since the 2015 season
Prediction: Broncos 28, Bengals 27
Saturday Game #3: Arizona Cardinals (7-8) @ Los Angeles Rams (9-6) I Line: Rams -6.5
The Rams can essentially secure the NFC West this weekend, while the Cardinals have lost four of their last five games. Expect Los Angeles to dominate and punch their ticket to the playoffs.
Prediction: Rams 27, Cardinals 16
Dallas Cowboys (7-8) @ Philadelphia Eagles (12-3) I Line: Eagles -9
After seeing their ten-game win streak snapped last week, I expect the Eagles to bounce back (assuming Jalen Hurts plays) against their division rival. Dallas has shown plenty of fight in the second half of the season, and I anticipate them to continue that trend on the road, even in a losing effort.
Prediction: Eagles 27, Cowboys 20
Carolina Panthers (4-11) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-7) I Line: Buccaneers -7.5
Even though the Panthers have been playing well lately, I can't trust them in this scenario, even if they forced the Bucs into OT a few weeks ago. If Tampa want to extend their season into January, they must win this week.
Prediction: Buccaneers 28, Panthers 18
Indianapolis Colts (7-8) @ New York Giants (2-13) I Line: Colts -8
The Colts are still in the postseason hunt, while the Giants are focused on securing the number one pick. Expect Jonathan Taylor and Anthony Richardson to dominate on the ground as the Colts cruise to a victory.
Prediction: Colts 26, Giants 13
Las Vegas Raiders (3-12) @ New Orleans Saints (5-10) I Line: Raiders -1
The Raiders winning two straight games late in the season and knocking themselves out of prime draft position would be the most Raiders thing ever. I think they pull it off against a Saints team coming off a shutout loss.
Prediction: Raiders 17, Saints 14
Tennessee Titans (3-12) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (3-12) I Line: Jaguars -1
In a crucial game for draft positioning, I expect the Jaguars to complete the season sweep of the Titans, ultimately hurting their own draft standing in the process.
Prediction: Jaguars 16, Titans 13
New York Jets (4-11) @ Buffalo Bills (12-3) I Line: Bills -9.5
While I fully expect Buffalo to win, there’s a scenario where, before Sunday, they learn they can no longer claim the #1 seed. If that happens, the Bills might prioritize staying healthy over pushing hard in their final two games, as they’re essentially locked into the #2 spot.
Prediction: Bills 30, Jets 21
Miami Dolphins (7-8) @ Cleveland Browns (3-12) I Line: Dolphins -6.5
If the Browns stick with Dorian Thompson-Robinson again, I have no confidence in their chances. Miami secures a much-needed win, proving they can handle a cold-weather environment for a change.
Prediction: Dolphins 23, Browns 13
Green Bay Packers (11-4) @ Minnesota Vikings (13-2) I Line: Vikings -1
Green Bay is locked into a wild card spot, while the Vikings are still chasing the NFC's #1 seed. I expect the Packers to play a more conservative game, allowing the Vikings to secure the win and set up a massive showdown in Detroit for their regular-season finale.
Prediction: Vikings 24, Packers 21
Sunday Night Football: Atlanta Falcons (8-7) @ Washington Commanders (10-5) I Line: Commanders -4
In the battle of rookie quarterbacks, I’ll go with the more seasoned one. Jayden Daniels has a big game against a weak Atlanta pass rush, and Dan Quinn gets his team ready to face his former squad.
Prediction: Commanders 28, Falcons 22
Monday Night Football: Detroit Lions (13-2) @ San Francisco 49ers (6-9) I Line: Lions -3.5
In the NFC Championship Game rematch, I’m taking the Lions to dominate and lay the hammer down on this depleted 49ers roster.
Prediction: Lions 28, 49ers 17
