Since his trade from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos in 2022, few players across sports, let alone the National Football League, have seemed to lose his supporters at a more rapid rate than Super Bowl Champion quarterback, Russell Wilson.
Wilson, now quarterbacking the Pittsburgh Steelers after a disastrous two years in Denver following the Seahawks trade, is now on his third team in four years following his release from the Broncos in March.
Wilson has not been the same player since his split from the Seahawks. With how ugly his departure from the orginzation was, the fanbase turned on the one they adopted as one of their own. This "betrayal" likely cost him a chance to be one day honoured by the fans who once loved him for the magic he provided every day Sunday in Seattle.
As a Seahawks fan myself, as well as one who has made it no secret to take a shot at Wilson whenever I get the chance, I can still acknowledge that he is the greatest quarterback in the history of the franchise, and despite his uneasy exit, Wilson's #3 should still be retired by the franchise when he hangs up the cleats.
Seahawks Franchise Records Owned By Russell Wilson:
Pass Yards (37,059)
PASS Touchdowns (292)
Completions (3,079)
Completion% (65.0)
Pass YPG (234.6)
Game-winning drives (32)
QB Games played (158)
Passer Rating (101.8)
Rushing Yards (4,689) by a QB
Rushing Touchdowns (23) by a QB
Wilson will likely never be an elite quarterback again which would leave complicated questions about his career and if it is enough to be Hall of Fame worthy when his playing days are behind him.
Despite how many critics and jabs the NFL world has and will take at him, Wilson should be honoured by the Seahawks when his time comes. I hope that the man who helped bring the first (and only) Lombardi Trophy to Seattle can one day return to the place he called home and gets to see #3 get raised to the rafters of Lumen Field.
