Aside from sports, one of the many things I love is the movies. I try to watch at least two movies if I have the time or days off. In June 2024, I was able to watch nine films.
Here is my ranking of those movies.
9. The Fall Guy (2024)
I love Ryan Gosling as much as the next guy as an actor, but this just wasn't for me.
Gosling and Emily Blunt do their best with a bad script, but unfortunately, "The Fall Guy" is a comedy that simply is not funny, which is the worst outcome possible for any film in the genre. I am all for a "turn your brain" off type of me but you need to reign me in with a compelling story, not above average stunts. I cannot say this is one I will be rushing to watch again.

8. Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Emily Blunt, I promise it is not personal. I actually enjoyed the first half of this movie when we were understanding the concept of the story, but once I just kept seeing Tom Cruise re-introduce himself to Blunt for what seemed like every 5 minutes, it just took me out of the movie.

7. The Thing (1982)
The visuals in this movie are insane, not just for 1982, but for 2024 standards. The scenery kept me engaged throughout the majority of the film as I was excited to see what creepy figure John Carpenter was going to show on screen next. I can see how people love this movie, but I am just not the demographic for this movie.
Glad I watched and checked it off the watchlist, but not sure if/when I will revisit this fan-favourite flick.

6. The Age of Adaline (2015)
A story of a person stuck in time which has been done a million times in the past, but luckily was able to stand out on its own feet by giving it a creative twist I have yet to see in similar types of movies. Happy I can say that I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

5. Challengers (2024)
Definitely the most unique movie I watched in June. It was cool to see Zendaya play a more outlandish and confident character after I had seen in more quiet or outcast roles such as MJ in the "Spider-Man" franchise, and Rue in "Euphoria".
Based on the reviews, I had sky-high expectations for "Challengers", and obviously in that aspect, it did not live up to the hype but I can for sure say that this is not your typical sports movie.
I feel like I will need to watch this again to form a true opinion of the film.

4. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
I just realized I saw a lot of Emily Blunt in June of 2024.
Not a great Rom-Com, but for sure enjoyable. Meryl Streep is fantastic as always, and Hathaway does a great job of playing our sympathetic protagonist, but if you're going to be a Rom-com, I need a good love story, and I did not feel like this delivered.
However, I would watch this again.

3. The Judge (2014)
To go with this, and his Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer last year, we truly see that Robert Downey Jr. is much more than Tony Stark. You can throughout the movie that Downey needed to get away from the role of Tony Stark for a brief time at this point in his life and he delivers.
His chemistry with the whole cast is superb, but specifically with Robert Duvall, it is tense whenever they are around each other while you remain hopeful that the father-and-son duo can repair their relationship while going through an intense legal situation in the film.

2. Hit Man (2024)
This was actually hilarious! Glenn Powell is a certified Hollywood star, and he was able to show the range he has in his bag in this comedy. Powell will be a household name in this business for years to come

Molly's Game (2017)
Sports, meets gambling, meets movies... Yup, this is my type of movie.
Aaron Sorkin delivers a very "Social Network" esque movie which shouldn't come as a shock, as he was the mastermind behind that iconic screenplay and if the formula isn't broken, no need to fix it.
Loved this!
