QB Tiers: Ranking Every Teams Projected Week 1 Starter Prior To The 2024 Season

As we begin to delve into football season, here is a quick tiering and ranking of every NFL team's projected week 1 starter going into the 2024 season.

Notable QB's who I predict we see throughout the 2024 Season but not as early as Week 1:

  • Justin Fields, Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Drake Maye, New England Patriots

  • J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings

Tier 1: Tom Brady Is Nervous

Tier Criteria: In a tier of his own. The Chiefs look to create NFL history by becoming the first team to ever three-peat, Mahomes has the GOAT's palms sweating as he aims to swipe that title away from TB12.

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Tier 2: Makes Chiefs Fans Nervous

Tier Criteria: Chief fans should always feel confident with Patrick Mahomes as their QB but Allen and Burrow have been the only opponents in the AFC who have made Chief sweat in tight post-season games over the last three seasons. It would not be shocking if one of them could take down KC in the AFC in 2024.

2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

3. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Tier 3: Elite Quarterbacks:

Tier Criteria: Guys you know you can build your franchise around and can likely lead you to a championship.

4. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

5. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

6. C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans

7. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Tier 4: Franchise Guys Who Need to Answer Some Questions

Tier Criteria: Players who have shown flashes that they can lead a contender for years to come but could have some eyebrows raised within their organizations.

8. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys- Can he make a deep playoff run?

9. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions- Can Goff lead a team when everything around him is not ideal?

10. Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers- Ended the season strong but we need to see a full season with that level of production?

11. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles- Was 2022 the outlier season?

12. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars- Will he finally live up to the hype?

13. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals- Can he stay healthy?

14. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers- A system quarterback?

Tier 5: Love the Guy but I need an Encore

Tier Criteria: Mayfield enjoyed a season that could have been worthy enough for Comeback Player of the Year honours in 2023. The Bucs paid him in the off-season but to prove he is good enough to jump up a tier I just need to see it one more season.

15. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tier 6: Unc Status Watch

Tier Criteria: The two old veterans coming off torn Achilles that ended their 2023 seasons. We have no idea if they will be able to return to their past selves but the expectation should be that they will still be serviceable.

16. Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets

17. Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons

Tier 7: Unproven but I Believe in the Talent

Tier Criteria: Have all the tools in the world to be franchise guys. In fact, both could lead their teams to the post-season in 2024. Due to the lack of snaps in the big leagues, it is tough to rank them, but it is easy to see them being stars in the not-so-distant future.

18. Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts

19. Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Tier 8: Make-or-Break Season's on the Horizon

Tier Criteria: All will need to either have bounce-back years, to stay healthy, or lead their teams to the post-season to ensure that they do not fall a tier as well as allow their franchises to feel comfortable moving forward with them at the helm.

20. Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks

21. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins

22. Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers

23. Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns

24. Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints

Tier 9: We No Doubt Could Upgrade

Tier Criteria: More likely than not these guys are one-year stop gaps whose teams will look to upgrade from or in the case of New England, hand over the reigns to Drake Maye in 2025.

25. Gardner Minshew, Las Vegas Raiders

26. Jacoby Brissett, New England Patriots

27. Daniel Jones, New York Giants

Tier 10: Rookies & Sophmore's Who Likely Jump Up The Tiers

Tier Criteria: I expect all these guys to jump a couple of tiers throughout the 2024 season, but as of now, there is no reason or physical evidence of that to rank them any higher.

28. Will Levis, Tennessee Titans

29. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

30. Bo Nix, Denver Broncos

31. Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers

Tier 11: I Am Completely Out

Tier Criteria: I am not buying any hype about a potential career resurgence.

32. Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings
