There is little doubt that the 2024 World Series matchup between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers is the MLB's dream matchup for this year's Fall Classic. Drawing inspiration from that, it got me thinking about what the dream finals would look like across various sports leagues. At first, it may seem easy in some leagues, but I wanted to keep things realistic in the current landscape. For example, I am a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan, and despite being one of the most storied teams in NHL history, the Canadiens are far from contending for a championship at this time. When considering these potential matchups, I looked for ones that would not only excite fans but also have a decent shot at happening over the next couple of years.
NBA: Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers
Even if we are years removed from its peak, the Lakers-Celtics rivalry remains the most iconic in the NBA. These two franchises have faced off for decades, and it’s always a treat when they meet on the game’s biggest stage. The Celtics are the reigning champions and remain the favorites going into the season to win yet again. Although the Lakers may have a tall task ahead, they still have two top-10 players in the game today in LeBron James and Anthony Davis. If they receive any support from their supporting cast, they have more than a puncher's chance in any series. LeBron James is still the most popular player in the NBA today (if not the world), and he plays for the most iconic team in the league. If the NBA had its way, this would be their dream finals scenario.
Other Considered Matchups:

Knicks vs Mavericks
Bucks vs Warriors
Celtics vs Suns
76ers vs Nuggets
NHL: Edmonton Oilers vs New York Rangers
In an Oilers-Rangers Stanley Cup Final, the NHL's best player, Connor McDavid, would be going up against its biggest market in the New York Rangers. Until he wins the ultimate prize, McDavid's quest for a title will be a major storyline across the NHL. Along with McDavid, stars such as Leon Draisaitl, Artemi Panarin, and Adam Fox would be facing off against one another. The NHL would also feature the storyline of Wayne Gretzky's first team going up against his last. By combining top-tier hockey with the appeal of New York City, this series would draw viewers from all around North America.
Other Considered Matchups:
Oilers vs Maple Leafs
Oilers vs Penguins
Rangers vs Kings
Bruins vs Golden Knights
NFL: Kansas City Chiefs vs Dallas Cowboys
As much as we'd hate to admit it, could it be more obvious? A Cowboys-Chiefs Super Bowl is undoubtedly the NFL's dream scenario in 2024. Patrick Mahomes going up against "America's Team" for the Lombardi Trophy? Roger Goodell must be salivating at the thought. It would likely draw record viewership and generate excitement even among the most casual NFL fans.
