Over the last few years, I have noticed that the narrative surrounding the show "Friends" has taken a drastic 180.
When the show started to air on Netflix in 2015, millions of people were introduced to the hit sitcom and all of a sudden, a whole new generation of fans were born.
In 2024, much of the online discourse is that the show is not funny at all, and the characters are not likeable. To me, that is blasphemous. I understand if you are just not into the show, but to belittle it and say there is no humor whatsoever is ridiculous.
You cannot convince that you did not have a smile on your face when Rachel told Ross she was pregnant where David Schwimmer's facial expressions were perfectly executed, or how about when Chandler and Joey beat Monica & Rachel for their apartment, or the infamous "PIVOT" scene, I could go on all day long and name some hysterical moments but I think you get the point.
The show is also not just funny, the story and character arcs each one of the six leads go through over the ten-season journey is just superb television which is why "Friends" is my second favourite sit-com ever just behind "Seinfeld".
I can't believe I have to say it about possibly the most popular show of the last 25 years, but because of the hate and memes online, "Friends" is now an underrated show.
