Losing weight can be challenging, but choosing the right foods can make all the difference. If you're reading this, chances are you've set a goal for the new year to lose a few pounds or eat healthier. If so, I’d love to help. In 2022, I lost 60 pounds by incorporating these seven foods into my diet, and they’re still a staple today. These options, ranging from filling carbohydrates to lean proteins, provide nourishment and fullness, supporting long-term health and performance. It's not just about weight loss—it's about developing sustainable, healthy habits.
Eggs
Eggs are one of the most nutrient foods in the world and should be incorporated to everyone's diet on a regular basis no matter what your goal is. They are a great source of protein and healthy fats and are also high in antioxidants, choline, vitamin D, and other vital elements. Egg lipids are essential for hormone control, which is critical for managing weight and general health. Remember, there's a reason people refer to them as nature's multivitamin!
Egg Whites
Egg whites are a fantastic low-calorie, high-protein option for those looking to lose weight. In fact, they just may be the best form of "pure protein" on the market as 100 grams of egg whites are just 45 calories for 10 grams of protein. To ensure that you get the benefits of the nutrient-rich yolk and almost double your protein intake, I suggest combining 1 cup of egg whites with 1 or 2 whole eggs.
Red Meat
When properly chosen, red meat is a fantastic way to obtain essential fats for your body in addition to being a terrific source of protein. As stated before, a balanced diet must include healthy fats because they are essential for hormone regulation, nutrient absorption, and general energy levels. To reap the benefits of red meat while limiting your calorie intake, use lean cuts such as eye of round steak or 90/10 ground beef.
Chicken Breast
The ultimate "gym bro" protein source. Since chicken breast is a mainstay for anyone trying to lose weight and eat a nutritious diet, you just knew it had to be on this list. t's perfect for creating filling meals that are low in calorie and high in protein.
Potatoes
Potatoes are one of the most satiating food in the world, according to science, making them an underappreciated weight loss tool. They are extremely satisfying due to their combination of fiber, complex carbs, and essential nutrients like potassium, which helps to suppress appetite and lower caloric consumption. As long as you are not deep frying them in excess oil, start eating potatoes!
Watermelon
Because of its high water content and inherent sweetness, which can help reduce cravings, watermelon is a refreshing, low-calorie fruit that's ideal for shedding pounds. It's a little challenging to enjoy all year round, though, as it's mostly "in season" in the summer. However, when it's in season, watermelon is a great way to feel full, remain hydrated, and indulge your sweet craving without going off course with your diet.
Low Fat Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt's high protein content and countless customization options make it a great weight-loss tool. One of my favorite ways to enjoy it is by mixing in about 8-12 grams of Jello mix to add extra fluff and flavor. I usually top it with fresh fruit and a dash of cereal for added crunch—cereal being an underrated, low-calorie option that complements the yogurt perfectly.
