It's predictions season! With the season on the horizon, I'll be diving into predictions for the 2024 NFL award winners. From MVP to Coach of the Year. With so many players and contenders for each NFL award, it took some time to narrow it down, but after months of research, these are the selections I am locking myself into for the 2024 season.
MVP: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
I know it may seem like a safe or boring pick, but when you see my standings predictions later on, you will see that I expect the Chiefs to finish with the best record in football this regular season. If that happens and the Chiefs are the 1-seed in the AFC yet again, it likely means Mahomes played at an MVP per usual in the regular season. If or when the Chiefs have another dominant season in 2024, Mahomes will again be in line to win the MVP for what would be the third one of his career.
Other Players I Considered: Joe Burrow, Jordan Love, Josh Allen
Offensive Player Of The Year: Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Detroit Lions
It may come as a surprise because when you rattle off your top five wide receivers in the NFL, you may not think of him, but I’m picking Amon-Ra St. Brown to win Offensive Player of the Year in 2024. Over the past couple of seasons, he has been one of the targeted players at his position and puts in very consistent numbers. As one of the best route runners in football, St. Brown’s ability to get open makes him the most feared player on the Lions' offence. QB Jared Goff will make sure he gets his targets, and I think the Lions will be just as good, if not better than they were a year ago. If so, St. Brown’s is my pick to take home the OPOY.
Other Players I Considered: CeeDee Lamb, Bijan Robinson, Ja'Marr Chase
Defensive Player Of The Year: Kyle Hamilton, Safety, Baltimore Ravens
I know it is rare for a non-pass rusher to win this award. The last time a player in the secondary won the DPOY was Stephon Gilmore in 2019, and before that, it was Troy Polamlu. So yes, I know it is unlikely, but I’m picking Kyle Hamilton for Defensive Player of the Year. While players like T.J. Watt, Myles Garrett, and Micah Parsons are the odds-on favourites, I value team success, and a player's impact on winning.
I think the Ravens will be a serious threat to win AFC yet again and to do so, they will need the defense to remain elite. Because of his value to that unit, as well as his playmaking ability in the secondary and if need to be, he can pass rush. Hamilton is my pick to buck the trend and win the DPOY.
Other Players I Considered: Myles Garrett, T.J. Watt, Micah Parsons
Offensive Rookie Of The Year: Caleb Williams, QB, Chicago Bears
Yes, I am aware this is boring and safe, but Caleb Williams should win this award even more so than Patrick Mahomes should win MVP. Williams's arrival to the NFL has been hyped up for years for a reason due to his exceptional talent. This offseason, Bears GM Ryan Poles has surrounded his new franchise QB with weapons like Kennan Allen, De'Andre Swift, and Rome Odunze to go along with receiver D.J. Moore who he acquired last year. With his strong supporting cast, the Bears should be competing for a postseason berth in 2024, and the number one pick should make a significant impact right away in the Windy City.
Other Players I Considered: Marvin Harrison Jr., Bo Nix
Defensive Rookie Of The Year: Jared Verse, OLB, Los Angeles Rams
As much as I hate the Rams orginzation as a Seahawks fan and I am a bit more down on LA compared to some around the league, Jared Verse is my pick to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Despite their limited resources over the past few years and not having a first pick at all in the McVay era, the Rams have shown the ability to develop young players very quickly which allows them to be impactful straight away. Verse will be the Rams' first first-round pick since Jared Goff in 2016, and I expect Sean McVay and his staff to develop him into a blue-chip player quickly as they aim to return to the playoffs for the second straight year while they look to replace future hall-of-famer, Aaron Donald.
Other Player I Considered: Byron Murphy II, Laiatu Latu
Comeback Player Of The Year: Joe Burrow, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
I understand that this is Aaron Rodgers award to lose, but as someone who will be the fading the Jets going into the season, I cannot come out here and predict he is going to have a great year. Therefore, Joe Burrow my pick for Comeback Player of the Year.
I expect the Bengals to jump back into the Super Bowl bubble in 2024, and if they do, it will be because Burrow returned to being one of the players in football after a rough 2023 season which ended in a wrist surgery last November.
Other Player I Considered: Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins
Coach Of The Year: Mike MacDonald, Seattle Seahawks
Biased aside, I don't think I will be the only one picking Seahawks rookie head coach Mike MacDonald for Coach of the Year in his first season on the job. During his tenure as Ravens DC, many people around the league labelled him as a “boy genius” on the defensive side of the ball, and I expect him to turn around one of the league’s worst defences from last year despite how much talent is on that side of the ball in Seattle. If the Seahawks return to playoffs in 2024, MacDonald's impact will not be overlooked.
Other Coaches I Considered: Shane Steichen, Matt LaFleur, DeMeco Ryans
